Day Six - The World Series of Cover

“When we have a world series, we bother to invite other countries.” ~British Comedian

Today’s ride ended at a camp, and we arrived around noon (much earlier than normal). After unloading luggage and taking showers we moved over to the gym to keep ourselves entertained. We played a few games of knockout and dodgeball, and when the weather cleared we moved outside for a game of kickball.

The teams grew in size, we attracted a dozen spectators, and soon recruited an umpire and line coaches. We called it “The World Series of Cover” and played until dinner was ready around 6:30. It was a long but entertaining game, eventually ending with a 14 to 11 score.

We had some surprise guest riders today. One of the girls recruited a Jimmy Johns rider from Bloomington, and he rode 12 miles to the start point and another 49 to the camp. Mark’s family and friends made the trip down from Chicago and are riding with us tomorrow. Turns out a bunch his family friends teach at my high school!

After dinner we went out to a Cajun place in town, and there I had drinks with my high school teachers… 200 miles away from my high school. Never would have imagined it.

Today was another relatively uneventful ride. We were once again diverted up into hill country to avoid the flooding. The descents were long and very fun, and most of the route was quite scenic. After 10 or 20 miles the ride flattened out which made it easier.

Tomorrow is only 19 miles total, and the second half will be a Police escort through Indy. I’m excited!
