Day Four - Clear Skies
This morning we ate Breakfast in the grade school cafeteria… with the 4th graders. It was a lot of fun.
Some of the older girls (6th grade?) took a strong liking to one of our male riders, which provided the entertainment for the morning. “Excuse me, my friend wants to know your name.” The rest of the morning included stares and pointing.
Afterwards we all took a seat on the gym stage, looking out to an audience of grade schoolers. They presented us with a check for $7,777.77, and then Elvis led the ride out of the school grounds. The Elvis route was lined with cheering kids, which was a great send off.
Before we left we were told that the route was flooded waiste deep, and we would have to wade through parts of it with our bikes on our backs. Later we were re-routed up a small mountain to avoid the flood. The scenery was great, and the descents were a blast with one exception:
“I think we all get honorable mentions in the Darwin Awards.”
“Yeah, I think that was even stupider than leaving the diner yesterday.”
Flashback to leaving the diner: “If we do this, if we actually manage to do this, it will be EPIC! …[two minutes later] WE ARE SO STUPID!!!”
Back to today: It was a relaxed and fun ride, and we took a number of stops for photos… and to play with free kittens at the request of one of the girls. Definitely the most enjoyable ride yet.
Tomorrow we are riding through Indiana University, and we plan on wearing our Purdue jerseys.
Photos will have to wait, I can’t find a decent connection here.
